Dannel P. Malloy made the announcement at the Legislative Office Building, saying that Redeker impressed him by how he ran the department during the financial uncertainty of this summer. "Our national search ended about where we started here in Connecticut," Malloy said. Redeker will run the roughly $1 billion a year department at a time when it faces a backlog of overdue highway repairs and mass transit infrastructure renovations. At the same time, it is being pressed to complete Route 11, build a $569 million busway between Hartford and New Britain and launch a $600 million or more commuter rail system running from New Haven to Springfield, Mass. Like states throughout the country, Connecticut is under budget pressure that severely limits how much the DOT can expect to spend over the next two years. Meanwhile, the conservative Congress is pushing to cut federal transportation aid to states, a prospect that could cost Connecticut hundreds of millions of dollars. Redeker will be the 10th DOT commissioner in the past decade. In recent years, the revolving door in its executive offices has spun faster than usual. Then Gov. Jodi M. Rell hired Joseph Marie with much fanfare in 2008, praising him as a modern, transit oriented professional who could restore the agency's image after a series of scandals and severe cost overruns. His mission was also to break the DOT's culture of building highways and largely ignoring mass transit. Marie hired Redeker and Jeffrey Parker, a former transit executive from Atlanta, to lead the campaign for improving train service and the state's ports. But last summer, Rell pressured Marie to leave after getting a complaint of "inappropriate conduct" involving a female employee at the agency's Newington headquarters. She named Parker as acting commissioner, and he stayed on for the first two months of Malloy's administration before quitting. Malloy at the time described the ideal candidate as someone "who has a national reputation or who can project one in a short period." Redeker's style is decidedly more low key than that. When Parker quit, Malloy promoted Redeker, 57, to run the agency while the national search continued. Malloy had said that he wanted a commissioner willing to accept direction, and Redeker has never publicly challenged Malloy's office on policy matters. When asked Thursday whether Redeker's tenure in New Jersey gave him a predisposition to favoring highway tolls over gas taxes, Malloy interjected with a smile, "Any predispositions he has will be discussed with me." Nevertheless, Redeker's opinions carry weight with Malloy. He was instrumental in persuading Malloy to support the controversial busway project, and was the governors' lead representative in negotiations for 25 new train cars for Metro North's New Haven line. As commissioner, Redeker will be paid $175,000 a year. It's unclear how large a senior management team he'll have. Deputy Commissioner Al Martin recently left and had been doing double duty as chief of the department's ports and aviation division. Redeker has also carried two jobs, serving as head of the public transportation bureau. Theoretically, that means the DOT has three open jobs for top executives, but Malloy's office has not said whether the budget battered state will fill any of them. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and my babies Breech. He's currently using my cervix as a recliner with his head on my right side. So according to my midwife these are my options. which could make for an emergency c section if the cord gets caught around his neck. this only has a 50% chance of working and it's extremely uncomfortable. they don't provide pain meds while they push and pull at the baby. However, if I decide on the hospital physically moving him there is a chance of needing an emergency c section or it not working anyways. I really need to make the decision by tomorrow but I need advice. I'm torn because of the chance that naturally the baby won't move but there's also a chance neither would work!?! Soo what would you do if you were in my shoes. Advice or opinions PLEASE!! Try whatever you can! I had a transverse baby (caught at 41 weeks) so I had very little time to try anything but acupuncture. The doctor did a version it hurt but it was worth a try to avoid a c/s. Unfortunately, my LO didn't budge and away to surgery I went. I'm now at weeks w/a breech baby and have been doing exercises, acupuncture, hot/cold packs, a homeopathic remedy, and setting up a time w/a chiropractor. If all this fails I'll try for another external version. Just remember if you have a c/s now and want more children, there's a chance you won't find a VBAC friendly doctor to deliver you and you're very limited with later pregnancies as far as time limits and induction. But in the end, you have to decide to do what's best for you and your baby. I'm pretty sure swimming worked for me. I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow. My LO was breech last Friday and as of yesterday she turned. My doctor won't do an ECV on me (since I'm a FTM and the LO was frank breech), so she said to try acupuncture, some exercises (like your midwife described) and swimming. I tried swimming, doing flip turns, and either that or just timing worked and she turned. I personally decided we wouldn't do an ECV even if my doctor was willing to, but that's our own decision. There have been some other moms here who recently got an ECV and it worked. My baby was breech and I had planned on having a natural birth and so was very upset about having to have a c section. So, yesterday morning I went for (to turn the baby). I had previously tried accupuncture, pelvic tilts, cold compresses, etc.,. My doctor has been doing the procedure for 24 years and has never had anyone need an emergency c section. Though, he did make it clear to me that it was a possibility. So, the procedure. I did not get hooked up to an IV. They did place a port in my arm in case. The doctor tried first without giving me the shot of medication that relaxes your abdominals. However, as I am a first time mom, or for whatever reason, he wasn't able to manipulate my adomin very much. So, he then gave me the shot which didn't hurt at all (in my arm) and tried again. This time he was successfull and the baby turned!! So, now I get to have the natural birth that I desire. I am very, very glad I had the version. It was not painful, but it was uncomfortable and the whole procedure took about ten minutes at most. There are two versions on youtube that you can watch. It helped me to know what I could expect. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Not sure what to do either. but I'm in your shoes too. just 35.5 weeks at the moment! what I can tell, we may as well try the ECV, because if we don't try it and baby is still breech we'll have to get a c section anyway. that gives us a 50% chance of having a natural birth at least! we'll definitely have c sections. Just make sure your dr. has all the fetal heart rate monitors hooked up while attempting it. I doubt the pain of the ECV would be as bad as the pain of a natural birth. so if we're planning on doing a natural birth anyway, we can take the pain of the ECV, right? heard swimming can help him turn naturally. totally worth a try at least! are a couple videos of ECVs on youtube that you can watch they really don't look bad at all. search for external version on youtube. this point I'm just trying to educate myself as much as possible on all the options. our babies will turn naturally though!! luck and keep us updated! I am 34 weeks right now and my baby is breech. My doctor told me that by the delivery time, only 3 5% of babies are still breech and they can turn head down at the very last moment. I've decided against external version, as it does not sound pleasant or safe to me. I've also told my doctor that I am going to take my chances are not schedule c section. Meanwhile, I am doing pretty much everything you've mentioned to try to help him turn. One thing I'd recommend is swimming every day (if you have access to the beach or the swimming pool). Feels amazing and helps your muscles relax :) Mine is breech too. 35 weeks today. I've been swimming and just got back from pre natal yoga (I'm exhausted, I might need a nap!). I'm going to try a chiropractor and see if that helps. I feel for you. It's a tough choice. I'm hoping that he'll turn in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully your Lo will turn too. I'm going to try all the natural methods first, then I guess if he doesn't turn, I'll be in the same spot as yourself in two weeks. Sorry I can't offer helpful advice, but wanted to let you know you're not alone! I had an appointment to try and ECV yesterday (at 37 weeks 5 days). After waiting endlessly (or 7 1/2 hours) for the doctor to have time to attempt it. they came in a did an ultrasound. Apparently, it decided to turn on its own in the past two weeks. I knew it'd been moving a lot and it seemed like it was trying to turn but I hadn't realized it had been successful. I had made the decision to go ahead and attempt it though. As far as I was concerned the worst that could happen was they would be unsuccessful and I would end up having the c section. or I could not try and have a c section. I have heard that it hurts a lot when they try to move the baby but that I was willing to deal with. Men Nike Free Run 3.0 Total Orange Neon Reflective Silver Wolf Grey,Birds of Vermont Museum board president Shirley Johnson presents "Winter bird feeding and the Great Backyard Bird Count" for seniors in South Burlington on Feb. 15. Barbara Vogel said she lived on Shelburne Harbor before she and her husband, Robert Vogel, moved into a South Burlington condominium. Birds frequented her home on the lake. Barbara always enjoyed birds because of their plumage, and different calls. "I used to whistle to the cardinals and they would answer me," she said. "They have three little trills and then five. It was something special." Where she lives now, there are not a lot of birds, she said. "We can't have feeders either. I miss that. I can go to places where I can see the birds, but not so much on a daily basis." The Vogel's took time to partake in a Great Backyard Bird Count and Birding presentation by Birds of Vermont Museum board president Shirley Johnson at South Burlington City Hall on Feb. 15. The presentation was a South Burlington Seniors organization event. Vogel said she is planning to participate in the Backyard Bird Count at her daughter's home in Shelburne. The Great Backyard Bird Count is led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, with Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada and sponsorship from Wild Birds Unlimited. It's an annual four day event for bird watchers of all ages to count and log in the birds they see. As a result, this creates a snapshot of where the birds are across the continent, Johnson said. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. The 2012 Great Backyard Bird Count is Feb. 17 through Feb. 20, the 15th annual count. About a dozen seniors attended Johnson's presentation. Johnson said she hoped attendees were able to gain greater appreciation of birds. "Birds are part of the natural world around us, and I just think we have a lot to learn from them," she said. "They are amazing to study. I hope people found it educational and enjoyable." "They are the last touch of elegance". The iconic two toned shoes designed by Coco Chanel more than fifty years ago, withstanding the test of time and trends, are still the timeless classic in the fashion world. The two tone shoes featuring sling backs in beige with a black toe and first appeared in 1957. This design was inspired by the elasticated sides and black toe from men's sport shoes. The two tone shoes were a very pure design. The beige melted into the whole and lengthened the leg. A little elastic on the low cut inner side adapted to the shape of the foot to adjust its every tension and follow its movement. And later Coco Chanel further developed her design and created four versions of two tone shoes that you can wear anywhere. With four pairs of shoes, you can go around the world and go around the clock! One pair of beige and black sandals for any occasion, a pair of beige and gold sandals for the evening, a pair of beige and brown sandals for the day time in a sporty version and beige and blue for the day in the summer. Nowadays a lot of celebrities are the big fans of Chanel two tone shoes, such as Catherine Deneuve, Romy Schneider, Jeanne Moreau and Dephine Seyrig. And this design has widely employed by Karl Lagerfeld for walking shoes, boots, sandals, ballet shoes and so on. The legend of two tone shoes is continuing.
