Although relatively level, with just a few inclines/declines, most of the trail is loaded with rocks. Make sure you have good boots, trail running shoes would be a recipe for busted ankles! Hiked the entire loop counterclockwise over two days, one night. Although fun, I would recommend hiking the loop clockwise instead, which would allow one to break up the mileage more easily. By going counterclockwise, the best camp sites are only about 1.5 2 miles in, leaving you a ton of mileage before the next good site. This also makes doing the extension out to Big Bear Swamp a difficult trek. Next time I will plan on spending two nights and breaking the mileage down into three easier, more relaxing days.
