Yesterday, his lawyer Phil Star, requested an appeal at the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, and the Crown did not oppose the application. remaining in Nova Scotia unless travelling to Toronto to see his lawyer, there a curfew unless he in the company of one of his sureties, and no contact with certain named individuals, he said. Crown attorney Mark Scott said there were no red flags preventing the judge from agreeing to the request for an appeal. clear from the history of proceedings that he was not a flight risk, he got roots in the community, and there were no indications of any types of breaches or failure to attend throughout the court process. appeal isn expected to be heard in court until sometime in 2015. I read a statement online where a person named Guy stated in relation to the Lyle Howe matter that: "it means nothing that Mr. Howe is Black". There was a response to this statement and I quoted the statement below. It's kinda interesting. "This is a scary sentiment and speaks to exactly what Black Nova Scotian's are afraid of in terms of attitudes of some (emphasis on some) Nova Scotians. "Being black means absolutely nothing". That's why he didn't have a single Black Nova Scotian on his jury panel (out of 200 people). About 3% of the population in NS is Black so if it was a random selection there should have been 6 Black Nova Scotian's out of 200 and there were zero. That's because as Guy says "Being black means absolutely nothing". It means nothing in terms of getting a "jury of your peers" and it "means nothing" that there has never been a Black Nova Scotia judge at our Supreme Court, nor at the federal level. And it means nothing that Mr. Howe was really the first high profile Black defense attorney in Nova Scotia and his career is taken away. All of this "means nothing" to some (again emphasis on some) Nova Scotian's. Which is why to this jury, his account of what happened "means nothing". Also the fact that she had the same amount of alcohol as he did "means nothing" (and she outweighed him by 50 lbs and was a more seasoned drinker). The fact that there were no drugs in her system "means nothing'. The video of her walking in the house during a period of time that she claims to "be fuzzy" despite seeming to have all of her faculties "means nothing". had sex with a person that had a few drinks) "Means nothing". She is a victim and he deserves to go to jail despite the fact that they did the EXACT same thing. And the scary thing is that some people like Guy state that this "means nothing".".

I am new here and thank you God for everyone in this group. I need help and some advice or encouragement. My son Tyson, 4 mo., was born with "mild" club foot on the right foot. His left foot is fine. He went thru 5 weeks of casting and a heel cord surgery. He got the cast off from the surgery last Monday. I was told he needed the shoes on 23 hours a day. Well. he hates his shoes. He will not sleep for more than 30 45 min. and then will wake up crying. He went from a baby that slept all night to not sleeping at all, unless I give up and take the bar off the shoes in the middle of the night. I did that on day 3 of no sleep, because I was going crazy. I don't know if I am giving up to easy, he is hard headed (like my husband) or expecting too much too soon. It has been seven days of trying to keep the shoes on and Tyson is showing NO signs of getting "used" to them. Please tell me. I can take it! Am I not being disciplined enough, expecting too much too soon? did alot of research on the shoes before picking which ones to buy, I ended up going with MD Ortho shoes with a Dobbs Bar. I am not sure if the Dobbs bar (allows the legs to move independantly for kicking) because he is not old enough to crawl and the way the Dobbs Bar is, it makes his feet not able to touch the bed when on his back. I have tried pillows under his legs. I don't know if I should allow him to sleep on his stomach. What I do know is that he is miserable, which makes me miserable. Any advice on how to get him thru this till he is "used" to them would help. Thanks. I am so glad I found this support group, was feeling pretty alone!I know its really tough, but it is so important to keep the shoes on! It took my boy about three weeks to fully adjust, we are in the Mitchell shoes with the Ponseti bar. We sleep on a changing table pad with blankets rolled under his knees. Did he sleep after you took the bar off? If not, it might just be the normal 4 month sleep regression, if you go over to the May 2010 birth club, you will see it is pretty common. Also, I think the feet are pretty sensitive after all that casting, so we gave Tylenol at bedtime for the first couple of weeks, which seemed to help. I don't know anything about the Dobbs bar, but is he happy the rest of the day, with the shoes on? If not, then it could be that he is not fully corrected. Check out the nosurgery4clubfoot yahoo group too, lots of good info there. I have been lucky, Brynn accepted them from the get go and all is good. She can have up to 2hrs a day of "freedom" so this is our schedule: 1 complete hour with no shoes or socks on at all (sometimes in the morning after her morning nap or the another time during the day), then a few minutes here and there throughout the day. During the other free times, sometimes we just leave the shoes on and remove the bar and others times we remove it all. When she is out of her shoes, I am constantly playing with her feet rubbing them, holding them, stretching them for a few reasons 1) to desensitize their sensitivity, 2) because I am terrified of relapse, so I give them 0 chance to try to tighten back up, and 3) I LOVE BABY FEET! lol. When she is in the brace, I play with her. She "sits" in the Bumbo, lays under her floor gym w/ a mirror, and sometimes I do baby leg lifts with it on her and tryto make it all fun and it keeps her distracted. She also, per the doctor, can have the bar off in her carseat because her legs are too wide. Maybe you could try a few of those things and see if it relieves it to a degree. Our daughter is colicky too, so crying is not very uncommon here. Also, she is a belly sleeper and has been for a while. Sometimes situations call for a change in the "rules." I knew she was going to have to sleep in her bed (my other 2 never did and I can't get rid of my 2yo). I tried so hard to make her a back sleeper and she was up every 30mins and most nights slept with us. I was afraid of being beat to death with that bar, lol, so I was determined. I decided to spend $100 at Babies R Us for the AngelCare Monitor and let her belly sleep. She started while in her casts, and she has slept through the night ever since, even with the bar! She is very strong and can push herself up and roll from belly to back, so it works. I know most people and Peds are against it, but I was desperate and we weren't facing a "normal" situation here. I would recommend the monitor to anyone, so maybe give it a try. I started with naps to see if he liked it before spending the money though. It will get better, in time. My son made the transition a little sooner, but it's always hard at first. We have the Dobbs bar and my son has never minded it (after he got used to it after a couple days). And I love that it allows him to get in more comfortable positions. He does sleep on his stomach. He has since birth. And he sleeps with us and I have been kicked many times, lol. Being kicked in the knees hurts the most! Just try to get through this and keep that bar on! It will eventually pass and become normal to him. This post is obviously 1 1/2 years old now but I am just going through the clubbed foot brace issue myself. IT has certainly been a huge struggle for us. My son is 7 months old, he was born with both feet clubbed, and went through 5 weeks of casting, thankfully no surgery was required. He's now been in braces for nearly 5 months and it has been nightmarish. We have continuously struggled with blisters on his feet/heels from the Ponseti boot/bar system. We made MANY trips to see his doctor and the orthotics clinic so that more padding could be added, the fit be adjusted, you name it. We tried different types of socks, band aids. everything we could think of to keep his skin from breaking open. Nothing worked. Finally, after 4 month of torture we tried the Markel shoes and Dobbs bar. These worked long enough for his old blisters to heal completely, but then started causing blisters in new areas. needless to say we were all frustrated and felt ready to give up on the entire thing. We then tried the Ponseti boot with the Dobbs bar, the first night with this combo was last night he slept all night without a peep and woke up with no redness or chafing appearing on the skin. We are thankful and cautiously optimistic that we have finally, after nearly 5 months of blisters, crying, and being on the verge of insanity that we have potentially found a solution. If you continue to struggle don't give up. Obviously you know it's best for your child to wear the braces, but it's also important to be an advocate for your baby. They can't speak up and tell you or the doctor what is wrong. If you think something isn't right, call your doctor! And don't be satisfied with excuses or let them feel like YOU are doing something wrong. Eventually they will find a solution. even if you are on the brink of a breakdown! Look at the bottom of the pin and see if there is a small retaining bolt. If not, rotate the carrier 180 degrees. The center pin has two functions: One is to keep the spider gears in alignment and 180 degrees apart; and the other is to keep the axle C clips tucked into their retention housings. Keep this in mind during the next steps; when the center pin is removed, the spider gears are free to move. Do not rotate either axle or the carrier with the pin removed. What will happen is the spider gears will move out of alignment and the pin can't be installed without re aligning the gears, or, the gears and their spacers will fall out. Unless you have considerable mechanical expertise, getting them back in and aligned can be one very frustrating proposition. Air Jordan 8 Playoffs 2013 Astronaut Drew Feustel learned a valuable lesson about being teary eyed on a spacewalk, NASA said Wednesday after the Endeavour crew's third jaunt outside the International Space Station. "Tears in space don't run down your face," he said, according to lead spacewalk officer Allison Bollinger who described the problem Feustel encountered when out on the spacewalk with astronaut Mike Fincke. "They actually kind of conglomerate around your eyeball," Bollinger recounted. The problem occurred toward the end of Wednesday's spacewalk by the two American astronauts who arrived at the orbiting lab along with a six member crew aboard the shuttle Endeavour 10 days ago. After stepping out to work on repairs to the Russian side of the station, Feustel discovered some of the anti fog solution he had buffed on to the interior of his helmet was flaking off. "We have seen this happen a couple of times in the past where if you are not careful about buffing the anti fog just the right amount, that it can tend to flake off every once in a while and get in the crew member's eye," said Bollinger. "The anti fog is just off the shelf dishwashing soap. So if you have ever had soap in your eye, you know how that feels." Feustel, who has completed several spacewalks since becoming an astronaut in 2000, was able to wiggle down far enough in his spacesuit to make use of a spongy device called a Valsalva that is typically used to block the nose in case a pressure readjustment is needed. "He was able to rub his eye against the Valsalva device to get the tear free," Bollinger said. The rest of the six hour, 54 minute spacewalk was routine, NASA said. Scheduled tasks to complete an external wireless antenna system and mend parts of the Russian side of the space station went ahead as planned. A final spacewalk by two Endeavour astronauts outside the orbiting research station is set for Friday. astronauts arriving on board the space shuttle step out for a spacewalk at the lab. astronauts who arrive on the shuttle NASA said. The Endeavour mission, STS 134, is the second to last for the American shuttle program. After Atlantis's planned launch in July, the three decade program will end and the shuttles will become museum pieces. A new pre spacewalk exercise regimen, known informally as the slow motion hokey pokey and consisting of light exercises and breathing instead of an overnight camp out in an airlock, was judged a resounding success. NASA's flight surgeon "reported that there were no medical symptoms whatsoever" with the new approach to preventing decompression sickness, or "the bends" that scuba divers face when encountering changing pressure, said Derek Hassman, lead International Space Station flight director. "He gave the crew a clean bill of health and the crew had nothing but positive feedback about the protocol they really loved the simplicity of the protocol, the fact that it doesn't require as much time on the oxygen masks, it doesn't require the overnight camp out." However, the in suit light exercise (ILE) pre breathe protocol will not be used for the last spacewalk of the mission on Friday, because it takes up 40 minutes more usage of the canister that scrubs carbon dioxide from the spacesuit. That could pose a problem for spacewalker Greg Chamitoff, who experienced a malfunction in his C02 sensor during his first spacewalk of the mission. Since Chamitoff wears an extra large spacesuit, there are no replacements on board for him to wear. "It might combine with the possible impacts of the C02 sensor (and) would reduce the capacity of Greg's suit to the point that we might not be able to do the 6 hour 30 minute EVA," Hassman said, referring to extra vehicular activity, NASA's term for spacewalk.
