Letter to the editor February 5, 2009 The Milford Times, The Observer and Eccentric Newspapers Address real problems Culling deer only puts a band aid on the symptom. The solution is to fix the problem poorly planned developments. Conventional subdivisions pollute lakes and rivers and wipe out natural areas, forcing wildlife such as deer into areas like Kensington Metropark. Many town officials and planners lack the political courage and knowledge to make changes badly needed to update outdated subdivision ordinances. Innovative conservation subdivisions (conservation development) (watch a video at www.landchoices.org/docfilm/arendt_clip1.htm) preserve natural areas for wildlife. They are proven more profitable, less costly and faster selling for developers. Learn more by clicking on the Supersize My Backyard image (www.landchoices.org/campaign.htm) at www.landchoices.org. Test your existing ordinance and download LandChoices' free conservation subdivision ordinance at www.downloadtheordinance.org. Wildlife, and people, have the right to better, more efficient and prosperous neighborhood designs. Thank you, Kirt Manecke LandChoices founder and volunteer president |
