LandChoices seeks matching donations
From Detroit Free Press, August 7, 2008

LandChoices, a Milford-based, national non-profit conservation group and pioneer in advancing conservation design to preserve clean water and rural character, announced that an anonymous donor has awarded a $5,000 challenge grant to inspire new contributors to get involved in land conservation and LandChoices' Supersize My Backyard campaign.

LandChoices has already raised $2,360 toward the challenge grant. The donors, a couple from northern Michigan, learned about LandChoices and was impressed with the group's innovative and effective solutions to over development and threats to clean water and wildlife. LandChoices must reach the $5,000 goal by Aug. 31, to successfully meet the challenge and receive the $5,000. Funds will be used toward the group's land conservation work.

"This generous challenge grant is a vote of confidence in our vision and potential for growth," said Kirt Manecke, LandChoices' founder and volunteer president. "Through the challenge grant, people can make an efficient tax-deductible investment in land conservation by donating easily and securely online or by mail. Their contribution will be matched dollar for dollar through Aug. 31, 2008, doubling their donation."

LandChoices' member and volunteer Rhett Reader said, "The donors wish to remain anonymous and told us 'What a wonderful idea! Getting rid of sprawl. Thank you LandChoices!' They encourage all donations, small or large, $10 to $1,000 or more, and hope to attract numerous smaller donations of $10, $15 and $20 to get more people involved in conservation."
