To help communities preserve land, Twin Cities Public Television features video from LandChoices
Two programs feature video from LandChoices to advance conservation subdivisions

Milford, MI—LandChoices (www.landchoices.org), a national nonprofit land conservation group based in Milford, Michigan, is part of two Public Television programs put together by the nonprofit group 10,000 Friends of Minnesota. The two programs, "Land Matters – Smarter Subdivisions" and "Land Matters – Rethinking Main Street", are airing on Twin Cities Public Television in Minnesota in 2010 and feature video footage from LandChoices to educate planners, township officials, landowners and the community about the benefits of conservation subdivisions.

The videos feature interviews with noted planner and LandChoices' advisory group member Randall Arendt, considered the nation's expert on conservation subdivisions.

"The programs help open township officials' eyes to the fact that outdated ordinances need to be updated to make conservation subdivisions the permitted use for developers if you want to preserve water quality, natural areas, wildlife and working farmland in your community. Begging a developer to change their 'cookie-cutter' subdivision site plan after they've invested thousands of dollars in it is a waste of time - it's too late by that time," says LandChoices' founder and Milford resident Kirt Manecke.

Signal Mountain Tennessee Planning Commission member and LandChoices' member Annette Allen says, "Planning commissions are largely composed of dedicated volunteers who care about their community and volunteer to preserve it. Unfortunately, innovative solutions like conservation subdivisions are not well known."

LandChoices is the first and only national nonprofit organization working to take conservation subdivisions nationwide to protect clean water, natural areas, wildlife and working farmland. Learn more at www.landchoices.org.
